The Hingham History Tour Cart

Tuesdays – Saturdays – 11AM, 1PM and 2PM and Private Tours by Appointment.

Enjoy historic tours of Hingham in our bright yellow, street legal, low speed electric golf cart – the Hingham History Cart! Tours are available for up to four individuals and led by Historical Society Staff trained to ensure your enjoyment and safety.

Select the day and time for your 45 minute tour and then select member or non-member and enter the number in your party. When you arrive for your tour, you will select a tour theme from the list below. Ticket prices are as follows:

  • $20 Member
  • $25 Non-Member
  • $10 discount on parties of four

Cart tours include access to restroom facilities at the Hingham Heritage Museum but admission to the Museum or the Society’s Old Ordinary House Museum are an additional charge.

When you arrive for your Cart Tour, select one of the following tours for your experience:

  • Hingham History Highlights: From a seasonal fishing and hunting ground of the Massachusett to a bustling suburb of Boston, learn the highlights of Hingham’s rich history on this tour.
  • Colonial Hingham History: This tour focuses on the history of Hingham from English Settlement to the early days of the American Revolution. Learn where the Puritan families from Hingham England settled, farmed, worked and worshiped.
  • Hingham Revolutionary War History: Experience Hingham history during the tumultuous years of the Revolutionary War. This tour will highlight the people, places, and events in Hingham connected to the American War for Independence.
  • Nineteenth Century Hingham: Hingham experienced massive growth and change from 1800 – 1899 and produced two Massachusetts Governors. Learn more about Hingham and pass by dozens of structures built during the 1800s on this tour.
  • Hingham Literary Tour: On this tour, visitors can learn about the many revered and award-winning poets, historians, novelists, and children books authors who lived in Hingham from the 18th century to today. This is a great tour for bookworms, history enthusiasts, and those interested in seeing literature come to life!

The History Tour Cart Fine Print:

  • The Hingham Historical Society’s History Cart is street-legal, registered with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and fully insured.
  • According to Massachusetts law, we drive at a maximum of 25 mph and never on roads posted with a speed limit over 35 mph (this includes Route 3A and 228.)
  • Seatbelts are required and no food or drink (except water) on board
  • For children under 8 years old, or under 57 inches, booster seats are required, but not provided by the Hingham Historical Society.
  • The History Cart will not operate during inclement weather
  • The Society reserves the right to cancel or deny rides unexpectedly.
  • There is a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or bullying of Society staff or fellow passengers.
  • Total weight capacity cannot exceed 1,000 lbs or 5 riders (including driver)
  • The Hingham Historical Society’s History Cart is not a personal chauffeur service. Wait time at pick up will not exceed 5 minutes. Last-minute schedule changes will not always be able to be accommodated.
