The National Historic Landmark Benjamin Lincoln House was home to eleven generations of Lincolns from the mid 17th century to 2020 when it was sold to the Hingham Historical Society to be operated as a museum. In addition to preserving its original architecture, the Lincoln descendants donated the majority of the home’s original furniture, art and artifacts to the Historical Society and those items are on display during your docent led first floor tour. As part of the Society’s ongoing accessibility work, we provide an IGuide video tour of of the second floor and the attic.

The National Historic Landmark Benjamin Lincoln House was home to eleven generations of Lincolns from the mid 17th century to 2020 when it was sold to the Hingham Historical Society to be operated as a museum. The most famous Lincoln to reside in the home was American Revolutionary War General Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810) who served in all three major campaigns of the Revolution - Saratoga, NY, Charleston SC and Yorktown VA - and famously accepted the British sword of surrender in 1781. In addition to the Lincoln family, residents of the home include servants - enslaved and free - and the home's 18th century architecture provides a telling account of their daily lives. In addition to preserving its original architecture, the Lincoln descendants donated the majority of the home's original furniture, art and artifacts to the Historical Society and those items are on display during the tour. At this time, your docent led tour includes the first floor and a virtual tour of the second floor and the attic.
